The Open Championship - Day 1 Summary
Updated 9 months ago

"Lamprecht is my hero" was what former Liverpool soccer legend Peter Crouch tweeted last night as the 6ft 8" South African, at the tender age of 22, grabbed a share of the lead with Tommy Fleetwood and Emiliano Grillo after day one.

And it was worthy praise after a solid performance by the youngster. It'll certainly be interesting to see if he can keep it going today and he can't be accused of not being confident declaring in his press conference that of course he thought he could win it and that he never tees it up if he doesn't believe he can!

Lamprecht went viral after the round but also viral during it when he executed an unreal shot out of the pot bunker on his fourth hole. Using his long limbs to his advantage and with his back to the hole, he escaped with a par. Not something many of the other golfers in the field could have executed and for many of the golfers hurting us in our picks it was these bunkers that destroyed their hopes.

Justin Thomas with 16% of total picks this week and Ryan Fox with 9% springing to mind after they both found the greenside bunkers on 18 and had to walk away with triple bogey 8's!

Over on Golf Champs we've got a four way tie for the lead between Paul Scully, Dino Barella, Chris Williamson and Christopher Young and with a R1,000 Breazies voucher going to the leader after round 2 there is plenty to play for today!

And if you're not in the running for a prize after round two then why not head on over to the House of Golf where your R1,000 spend this week will see you get a free sleeve of golf balls and going into a draw for a R2,000 gift voucher.

Enjoy the second round action and here's hoping your players get through the cut
